Polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN)

About Polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN)

Polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) have been shown to improve skin texture, reduce pore size and improve skin hydration resulting in healthier, younger looking skin. Their powerful anti- aging effects include production of collagen, reduction in hyperpigmentation, reduction in inflammation, and improved regeneration of tissues. They can improve hair thickness when applied to the scalp in combination with lasers and microneedling. When used in combination with these treatments they will improve results and reduce downtime.

What is PDRN?

PDRN consists of purified DNA fragments derived from salmon or trout sperm. These small DNA fragments go to work in the skin by stimulating collagen, and reducing inflammation caused by age, sun exposure, pollution and other causes. Their effects provide a natural tissue regeneration and overall improvement in skin and hair quality.

How does PDRN work?

PDRN activates certain receptors in the skin to improve tissue repair and healing. These receptors are also important in reducing inflammation and increasing collagen synthesis. PDRN promotes the growth and activity of fibroblasts which serve as the building blocks of collagen. PDRN has been shown to accelerate hair growth and revive hair follicles.

What are the effects of PDRN?

The effects of PDRN include improved skin texture, increased collagen production, more even skin tone, reduced appearance of scars, reduced inflammation, and improved hydration of the skin. PDRN inhibits the production of melanin improving pigmentation issues such as melasma, sunspots and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. PDRN can promote stronger and healthier hair especially when combined with Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) or laser treatment of the scalp.

Who can benefit from PDRN treatment?

Anyone looking for younger, smoother looking skin, improved hydration and more even skin tone. It can improve dark circles, stretch marks and skin laxity on the face and body. PDRN has also been shown to improve hair thickness in people suffering from hair loss.

Who should not get PDRN treatment?

PDRN treatment may not be possible in patients with an allergy to fish. It is recommended that a patch test is done prior to treatment to prevent allergic reaction. It is also not recommended to undergo treatment if you are pregnant or breast feeding or have an active infection at the site of treatment.

What areas can be treated with PDRN?

PDRN can be used anywhere on the face and body due to its powerful anti-aging effects. Common areas for treatment include under eyes to reduce dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles. Areas of scarring from surgery, acne or stretch marks, and scalp treatments for hair rejuvenation.

Are PDRN results immediate?

Results are not immediate but can become apparent at 4-8 weeks and continue to improve over 3-6 months.

Is PDRN safe?

PDRN has been shown to be non-toxic, biocompatible and extremely safe. It is highly purified to remove potential allergens.

Are PDRN treatments painful?

Numbing cream is applied to the area to be treated with PDRN so pain is minimal. There may be some tenderness after treatment which resolves in 12-24 h.

What are the side effects of PDRN treatment?

There have been no reported severe adverse events from the use of PDRN. There can be some treatment related side effects such as pain, bruising, swelling, itching and redness that typically resolves within 1 week. A few bumps may be present in the skin after treatment which resolve in 1-2 days.

How many PDRN treatments are needed?

It is recommended that you undergo 3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart followed by maintenance sessions every 8-12 months.

What is the difference between skin boosters and PDRN?

Skin boosters improve hydration and glow of the skin but tend to be short lasting. PDRN treatments rejuvenate tissues providing beWer and longer lasting results.

How to I prepare for a PDRN treatment?

You can continue all skin care products including retinol, antioxidants, and growth factors before PDRN treatment. Blood thinning medications (ASA, aspirin, ibuprofen), supplements (fish oil, Vitamin E) or herbal remedies (garlic, ginkgo, dong quai, ginger, turmeric) do not need to be stopped although they will increase the risk of bruising. It is advisable to avoid sun exposure or tanning for 2 weeks before the procedure. If you have a history of cold sores or shingles in the area to be treated, you should take a prescription antiviral medication to prevent a flare up of cold sores or shingles.

What should I do after undergoing PDRN treatment?

It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure for 48 hours. Cold compresses may be used if there is any swelling or bruising. A gentle cleanser followed by a moisturizer should be applied to the skin two times a day. Mineral sunscreen with at least SPF 30 should be applied daily in the morning for the following 4 weeks to prevent any dyspigmentation of the skin. Makeup may be applied after 24 hours. Active skin care products such as retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C or exfoliants can be resumed after 2 days unless any redness persists. You may resume regular physical activities the next day.
